Doin' it like Paganini

Yesterday, an interesting thing happened at a benefit concert for the Chamber Music Art Foundation.  My E string snapped with a loud noise when we were more than halfway through Frolov's Concert Fantasia on Themes from Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess", a virtuosic piece for violin and piano.  I believe that during a performance, the music should not stop at any cost, so I played the last 4 minutes of the piece without the E string, retranscribing the music in real time onto the remaining strings. It reminded me of Paganini, whose ability to faithfully complete a piece after losing one or more strings made him legendary.  Afterwards, I got a standing ovation, but without any press members around to write up what happened, my time to become a legend will have to wait.
