Trying out Yamaha violins from JSI
This past Saturday, I attended an exhibit of Yamaha electric violins in Brookline, hosted by Johnson String Instrument. A crowd gathered when I tried out one of the violins. Janice Tucker Rhoda, my friend and founder of ABCs of Strings in Cambridge, came over from her table and snapped a couple of pictures; I am attaching one. Next to me is Julia McKenzie of Johnson Strings, who also plays with the Handel and Haydn Society. The event included a concert by Yamaha artist Martha Mooke, showing off the amazing effects one can achieve with the new technology. This is a new age when technology has pushed the horizons of artistic expression to level that I could not imagine when studying violin as a child!
