12/03: "The Ciaccona" at BU's Marsh Chapel

I have been invited to perform the "Ciaccona" by J.S. Bach this coming Thursday, December 3, at the beginning of the Memorial Service for poet laureate Richard Moore. The service will take place at noon in Boston University's beautiful Marsh Chapel (735 Commonwealth Ave.), and general public is welcome to attend.

Richard Moore is an old friend of mine; we met in Cambridge in the mid-1990s, when I was a masters student at the Longy School of Music. We loved to have discussions about poetry, music, and the connections between them. Richard particularly liked my interpretation of Bach's music, and especially the "Ciaccona". He owned two CDs of mine with different performances of this piece, which is considered a pinnacle of the solo violin repertoire. It's very multidimensional and polyphonical, covering all the violin techniques known at Bach's time -- among the most difficult violin pieces ever written. I am honored for this opportunity to perform it in Richard's memory.
